Paul Verhoeven was born in 1938 in Amsterdam and graduated from the University of Leiden with a degree in Math and Physics. He entered the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he began his film career by making documentaries for the Navy and later for TV. A selection of his most well-known films includes: the well-known Dutch series Floris (TV, 1969), the OSCAR-nominated Turkish Delight (1973), Soldiers of Orange (1977), RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Showgirls (1995), Hollow Man (2000) and Black Book (2006).
