ANYWHERE ELSE (ANDERSWO)

ANYWHERE ELSE

Eight years ago Noa came to Berlin. Now she is about to graduate from university and has recently moved in with Jörg, her German boyfriend. But suddenly she experiences a personal crisis. Noa feels misunderstood and isolated. She doesn’t recognize her own self anymore. When Noa’s professor refuses her master thesis, a dictionary for untranslatable words, and Jörg goes on a tour with his orchestra, Noa decides to take a break. Spontaneously she flies back to Israel. Just a few days of holiday in her homeland. Sun, family, food and her mother tongue. It’s doing her good. But suddenly her grandmother is hospitalized. It's the perfect excuse for Noa to extend her stay, and to avoid facing the problems that are waiting for her in Berlin.

But sooner than she would like, everyday life in Israel haunts her. Old conflicts emerge and new ones appear. The inner pressure she already felt in Berlin steams up and her grandmother’s condition gets worse. Ironically, she feels as misunderstood in her old homeland as she felt in Berlin. Then all of a sudden Jörg shows up. Of all days on the Israeli national memorial day. Noa’s two carefully separated worlds collide. Even Jörg starts to doubt if they still have a chance for a common future. Is there a way for Noa to find herself in this chaos?

ANYWHERE ELSE tells the story of Noa’s search for her place in life in a touching manner, combining drama and comedy. The movie is carried by its devotion to the protagonists and at the same time it makes the audience contemplate universal themes such as language, homeland and love.
