The season of Christmas cheer and goodwill to all men (and women) was being recreated by director Markus Goller and his team at locations in Frankfurt and Berlin this spring for his fourth feature ALLES IST LIEBE.

In a series of episodes, the film focuses on the chaos of emotions that people are confronted by, regardless of their age: Kiki (Nora Tschirner) still hankers after her childhood sweetheart Jan (Tom Beck), family man Kerem (Fahri Yardim) tries to cope with his redundancy in a most unusual way, Klaus (Christian Ulmen) and Viktor (Friedrich Mücke) get cold feet just before tying the knot, marriage has gone stale for Hannes (Wotan Wilke Möhring) and Clara (Heike Makatsch), and, to top it all, Santa Claus (Elmar Wepper) appears on the scene to save a small girl from drowning.

“The great thing is that, when watching the film, the audience will jump between the different episodes and see how interconnected the characters and stories are,” producer Henning Ferber says. “I think it will be fun to see where the storylines go.”

Frankfurt am Main is the setting for the story “because one of the key scenes in the film is of Father Christmas arriving on a boat,” he explains.

While 24 days were spent there shooting exteriors on the banks of the River Main, in front of the Alte Oper and recreating the Christmas Market at the Römer square, a further 18 days were spent in Berlin on interiors and outside locations.

Goller’s previous credits as a feature film director were on FRIENDSHIP!, HOT LINE and FRAU ELLA. “From the outset, Markus was my favorite candidate to direct because I like the way he works with the characters with such warmth,” Ferber says. “He was the perfect match for this project.”

Ferber’s attention was brought to the original romantic comedy ALLES IS LIEFDE, which was seen by over one million Dutch cinemagoers in 2007, and UK-born screenwriter Jane Ainscough then wrote the screenplay for ALLES IST LIEBE which was inspired by the Dutch film.
