Specific Characteristics Recognized by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) as Documentary and/or Short Film Festival. The winner of the short film competition automatically qualifies for the OSCAR competition for the Best Short Film. The jury nominates a short film from the international competition for the European Film Awards.

Evaluation Oberhausen is not only the oldest short film festival in the world, it is also one of the most important and best-regarded. The competition provides an excellent overview of avant-garde short film productions. The festival focuses on innovative, artistic short films, paying special attention to new technical development.

Oberhausen hosts the biggest short film market in Germany, attracting the major buyers, curators and festival representatives. All films entered for selection will be available on video terminals.
