Specific Characteristics Recognized by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) as Competitive Feature Film Festival (so-called "A-Festival").Evaluation The Cairo International Film Festival is organized by the Ministry of Culture in Egypt. It aims to contribute the art and science of film and encourage intercultural dialogue.
Until 2012, contact with the festival and access of informationhas been rather difficult. Even though it wasn't a relevant event from a business point of view, the festival attracted a huge number of local spectators. Directors/right holders were asked to accompany their films to ensure proper projection conditions and adequate return shipment of the print.
In 2013, the festival paused for one year due to the political situation and changes in Egypt. The 2014's edition is supposed to be a new beginning for this old festival. The well-known Arabian film critic Samir Farid became the president of the festival and the festival staff has been changed, with the goal to reduce bureaucratic barriers. This could be a chance to increase to international reputation and importance of the festival.
Services The Festival covers the cost of returning screening copies of selected films. The Festival creates electronic subtitltes in Arabian language.
