Specific Characteristics Recognized by FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Associations) as Competitive Feature Film Festival (so-called "A-Festival").

Evaluation The only A-Festival in China, organised by the Shanghai Office for Film and Television. This umbrella organization has a political function which implies almost all "politically reliable" filmmakers attend. The festival has so far been the big opportunity for the local audience to screen a wide variety of movies from overseas. Since China's market for overseas partners is rapidly growing the festival also uses the opportunity to open up for all Chinese filmmakers, offering them contacts with the international film industry.

Since 2003 the festival has established the official festival side-bar "Focus Germany" which presents about 10-15 new German films every year and allows the German filmmakers to meet with the Chinese audience and filmmakers.

Services The festival covers the shipping cost and the insurance of the print from the festival back to the print sender or to other festivals required by the sender. All films will be electronically subtitled in Chinese during the Festival. Translation of subtitles from English to Chinese and the screening of the subtitles will be complimentarily operated by the Festival.
