Scene from "Lâl"

Lâl is the portrait of a German widow, living and working as a psychoanalyst in Istanbul. One evening, after a long separation, she meets up with her daughter, who has joined the Kurdish guerilla in Eastern Turkey. The daughter reveals an amazing secret to her mother. And the night has another surprise to come.

Dirk Schaefer studied at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne from 2002-2005, during which time he particpated in the MEDIA Program EKRAN at the Andrzej Wajda Master School in Warsaw. Also a guest instructor at the Film Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg, he has been directing and producing since 1997. A selection of his films includes: the shorts Les rappeurs (1997), Armut ist das tuerkische Wort fuer Birne (2002), Ich waere lieber einem Wolf begegnet (2003), Wirklich (2004), and Lâl (2005).
