PIANOMANIA

Scene from "Pianomania" (photo © Robert Cibis)
Pianomania takes the viewer along on a humorous journey into the secret world of sounds, and accompanies Stefan Knuepfer at his unusual job with world famous pianists like Lang Lang, Alfred Brendel, Rudolf Buchbinder and Pierre-Laurent Aimand. To find the right instrument with the necessary qualities, compatible with the vision of the virtuoso, to tune it to perfection and finally to get it on the stage, needs nerves of steel, boundless passion, and the extraordinary competence in translating words into sounds.
Lilian Franck has been producing and directing films for the international market for the past ten years. In 2003, she and Robert Cibis received the German-French journalists’ \"Next Generation\" prize. Their documentary film Human Capital was sold in five countries. Pianomania is her second feature length cinema film, after Jesus Loves You. She studied at the Baden-Wuerttemberg Film Academy, the Grande Ecole Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains in Paris, and within the framework of the Discovery Campus Masterschool.
Robert Cibis is a producer and director of documentary and theatrical films. He was awarded the Ekotopfilm 2007 prize for his two-part documentary film Disgustingly Healthy, together with Michaela Kirst. Pianomania is his second feature length documentary. He studied European Film Production in the Masterclass of the German-French Film Academy at the Femis in Paris and at the Film Academy in Baden-Wuerttemberg after having previously studied the Art and Science of Film in Rome and receiving a Master’s degree at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris.
