Michael Hammon was born in South Africa in 1955 and graduated with a degree in Painting and Photography from the University of Cape Town in 1978. He worked as a news cameraman before attending the German Film & Television Academy (dffb)
in Berlin from 1985-1991. He has worked as director of photography for many film and TV productions and began directing his own films in 1986. His films include: Mohale Street Brothers (1990), Wheels and Deals (1991), Trekking to Utopia (1993), and Hillbrow Kids (co-directed with Jacqueline Goergen).
