Fatih Akin was born 1973 in Hamburg to Turkish parents and is one of Germany’s most internationally known and multi award-winning directors. He studied Film at the
Academy of Fine Arts (HfbK) in Hamburg and graduated in 2000. From 1993 to 2004 he worked with WÜSTE Filmproduktion in Hamburg. In 2003 he founded his own film production company, corazón international. In 2005 he was a visiting professor at the HfbK Hamburg. He was a member of the juries at the Festival du Film International de Cannes (2005) and the International Film Festival Berlin (2001). A selection of his films includes: SHORT SHARP SHOCK (1998), IN JULY (2000), SOLINO (2002), HEAD-ON (2004), CROSSING THE BRIDGE – THE SOUND OF ISTANBUL (2005), THE EDGE OF HEAVEN (2007), SOUL KITCHEN (2009), and POLLUTING PARADISE (2012).
