Evaluation Before the end of the GDR, the Leipzig festival was one of the most important cultural events of the GDR. Although the focus is now primarily on productions from the former Eastern Block, this is no longer the only theme here. A well-visited festival which still represents a crossroads in the confrontation of East and West.
Especially notable is the reappraisal of East European filmmakers, who often have the chance here to come into dialogue with their Western counterparts. Unusual here is the concentrated mix of international documentaries and animated films as well as both short and long films. Festival director Claas Danielsen has established Leipzig as an industry meeting place with platforms for professionals to sell films (DOK Market), pitch ideas (DOK Ideas), find co-production partners and discuss current trends and developments (DOK Summits).
The festival is a member of Doc Alliance, a partnership of key European documentary film festivals, www.docalliancefilms.com
