The winner of the short film competition automatically qualifies for the OSCAR competition for the Best Short Film. The winner of the short film competition is automatically nominated for the European Film Awards.Evaluation Alongside Cannes and Berlin, Venice is one of the most important competitive film festivals in the world. It is the most important festival for the Italian film business, many buyers and distributors attend the event. 2012 will be the first festival edition under the direction of Alberto Barbera, who has slightly changed the profile of the festival program and who wants to establish a "light market" at Venice.
