GERMAN FILMS CELEBRATES 70 YEARS ANNIVERSARY AT BERLINALE

In 2024, it will be exactly 70 years since the founding of organisation for  film promotion in Germany. German Films is planning numerous anniversary events for the coming year - starting with a reception, which was held at this year's Berlinale, as well as a press conference at which the planned events were presented.

GERMAN FILMS AT BERLINALE

With a record-breaking total of over 50 German productions and co-productions - 35 of them being majority German productions - this year's Berlinale programme saw more German films in the festival line-up than ever before. German Films was once again represented at the European Film Market with a booth, a well-established point of contact for filmmakers and industry experts to exchange ideas.

FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS - PRESS EVENT AT BERLINALE

The seven talents of the 2024 FACE TO FACE WITH GERMAN FILMS - THE FILMMAKERS campaign were officially presented to the international press at Berlinale on Monday, February 19.

The event at Ritz-Carlton, a photo call followed by a one-hour moderated panel hosted by Melanie Goodfellow, editor at Deadline International, targeted journalists from around the globe.

GERMAN "EUROPEAN SHOOTING STAR" KATHARINA STARK AWARDED IN BERLIN

The European Shooting Stars 2024 Award Ceremony took place on stage at the Berlinale Palast on Monday, February 19.

Actor Katharina Stark recieved her award as the German Shooting Star 2024, as part of ten European up-and-coming actors who all were selected by an international jury of experts.

The prize was handed over by German actress Corinna Harfouch, starring in this year’s competition film DYING. The gala was the festive closing event of a 4-day programme of workshops, meeting with casting directors and international press.

FOURTH EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILMS IN ROME

In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and the German Embassy in Rome, the 4th edition of the Festival del Cinema Tedesco will take place at Cinema Quattro Fontane. The Italian film-savvy audience will experience and enjoy new German films from March 14 to 17, 2024.

GERMAN FILMS AT THE CLERMONT-FERRAND SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2024

The 46th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival took place successfully from February 2 to 10, 2024, despite significant cuts in public funding and the associated reduction in film programs. There were also awards for German films and filmmakers.

COUNTDOWN FOR NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER 2024

The 2024 jury of the NEXT GENERATION SHORT TIGER selected this year’s winners in Berlin. The films will premiere on April 20 at the 36th Filmfest Dresden and on May 21 at a Market Screening during the Festival de Cannes.

70 YEARS OF GERMAN FILMS - A RETROSPECTIVE IN FILMS

In 2024, German Films celebrates its 70th anniversary. As part of this anniversary, we will be reviewing impressive and outstanding German films throughout the whole year in our monthly newsletter - all curated and evaluated by Oliver Baumgarten.
The February movie is from 1963 - the classic TREASURE AT SILVERLAKE by Harald Reinl.

DEEP DIVE GENRE - A GERMAN FILMS PODCAST: SEASON 4 - HEIMATFILM

We are entering the 4th season of our DEEP DIVE GENRE podcast! Starting March 5, it'll be all about the most German of all genres: the Heimatfilm. A genre that holds a lot of conflicting connotations – and is a rather reluctant creative choice in Germany. But also an important one. The first two epsiodes will feature producer and filmmaker Barbie Heusinger and director Hans Steinbichler.

EnergaCAMERIMAGE 2024 opens for submissions
The 32nd edition of EnergaCAMERIMAGE at International Film Festival Toruń will take place from November 16 to 23, 2024 in Poland this year. All filmmakers, producers and distributors are invited to submit feature films, documentaries, music videos, TV series episodes and student etudes for the festival's consideration. Deadline for submissions is May 31, 2024. There are no entry fees for entries made before or on that date. Late entry fees (PLN 300 per entry) are charged for submissions made after May 31, 2024.
