THE TEACHERS' LOUNGE SHORTLISTED FOR THE OSCARS® 2024

The German feature THE TEACHERS‘ LOUNGE (if…productions film) by İlker Çatak made it on the shortlist of the last 15 films for the 96th Oscars® in the category Best International Feature Film. This has been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) on Thursday, Dec 21.

FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILMS IN CHINA

The Festival of German Films in China took place in its 11th edition from November 17 - 26, 2023 in Bejing. German director Aelrun Goette was on site to do a special screening at the German Embassy School. Director Sonja Heiss presented her film WHEN WILL IT BE LIKE IT NEVER WAS BEFORE as this year's openening film via video Q&A.

FESTIVAL OF GERMAN FILMS IN OSLO

From November 27 to December 1, 2023 a fine collection of best German Cinema was shown at Tyske Filmdager which took place in Oslo and was organized by the Goethe Institut Norway with support of German Films.

ANIMAR_BCN – THE ANIMATION THINK TANK

The second edition of the European Animation think tank took place in Barcelona from November 22 to 24. More than 80 experts from public institutions, broadcasters, pan-European institutions, and production representatives from more than 25 European countries were represented.

KATHARINA STARK IS THE GERMAN SHOOTING STAR 2024

For its 27th edition, the European Film Promotion (EFP) announced ten European up-and-coming actors who will be honoured as EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS 2024. This year, Germany will be represented by actor Katharina Stark (DEAD GIRLS DANCING, DAS DEUTSCHE HAUS).

EFP will present the European Shooting Stars to the international film audience during the first Berlinale weekend.

TRIESTE FILM FESTIVAL: FOCUS ON FEMALE FILMMAKERS IN GERMAN CINEMA

The longstanding tradition of the Wild Roses section at Trieste Film Festival will turn its focus to German cinema during the upcoming 35th edition from January 19 to 27, 2024. Each year, the traditional section is focusing on female filmmakers hailing from a specific Central and Eastern European country. Next year, it will be showcasing 13 titles by German directors, curated by former German Films Managing Director / Berlinale Executive Director Mariette Rissenbeek.

KINO! FILM SALON: SOUL KITCHEN by FATIH AKIN

The focus of the next session of KINO! FILM SALON online film club on January 14 will be Fatih Akin‘s culinary and entertaining buddy comedy  SOUL KITCHEN. The feature film received its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in 2009 and was a huge box-office hit in Germany and abroad.

Films by Mila Zhluktenko and Daniel Asadi Faezi on DAFilms
DAFilms, the Doc Alliance’s streaming platform that’s available worldwide, presents a new Filmmakers in Focus program dedicated to documentary filmmakers Daniel Asadi Faezi and Mila Zhluktenko. The compilation was curated by Christopher Small and includes their shorts ARALKUM (2022), OPERA GLASSES (2019), WHERE WE USED TO SWIM (2019), the midlength THE ABSENCE OF APRICOTS (2018) and the feature SLOWLY FORGETTING YOUR FACES (2021). Their most recent short WAKING UP IN SILENCE (2023) has been screening worldwide at many festivals following the premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival and most recently won the Jury’s Grand Prize at the Poitiers Film Festival.
