WHISKY WITH VODKA (WHISKY MIT WODKA) opens the 8th festival of German Films in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk

After last year's successful extension of the event from two to three Russian metropolises, German Films and the Goethe-Institut in Russia will now be staging the Festival of German Films for the eighth time in Moscow (3 - 6 December 09). Following on from this, the festival will visit St.Petersburg (5 - 11 December 09) and then go for a second time to Novosibirsk (9 - 13 December 09).

On 3 December 2009 the festival will be opened in Moscow by the German ambassador Dr. Walter Juergen Schmid. WHISKY WITH VODKA (WHISKY MIT WODKA) by Andreas Dresen will be shown as the opening film. The lead actor Henry Huebchen and the producer Christoph Mueller will introduce the film in person to the Russian audience. WHISKY WITH VODKA will then open the festival in St. Petersburg on 5 December, with the lead actor and producer also in attendance, and the film is due to be released in Russian cinemas in March 2010.

The festival in Moscow will be closed with a screening of THE ARCHITECT (DER ARCHITEKT) in the presence of the director Ina Weisse and the main actor Josef Bierbichler. Director Lancelot von Naso will present his film CEASEFIRE (WAFFENSTILLSTAND) in person to the Moscow audience.

Also showing in the program: MY WORDS, MY LIES – MY LOVE by Alain Gsponer, JOHN RABE by Florian Gallenberger, HILDE by Kai Wessel and the omnibus film GERMANY 09 (DEUTSCHLAND 09). The documentaries IN BERLIN by Michael Ballhaus and Ciro Cappellari and BALLADA by Andreas Maus will be in the program along with the TV film DER VERLORENE SOHN by Nina Grosse. The Russian children can look forward to JASPER: JOURNEY TO THE END OF THE WORLD (JASPER UND DAS LIMONADENKOMPLOTT) by Eckart Fingberg and Kay Delventhal.

The shorts STYX by Aike Arndt, THE LAST WHEEL (DAS LETZTE RAD) by Olaf Held and KOKON by Till Kleinert will screen as supporting programs. The short film reel NEXT GENERATION 2009, represented by the director Ines Christine Geißer, will complete the program.

The festival's partners are the German Embassy in Moscow and the Russian Ministry of Culture. Air Berlin, VW and the Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus are supporting the event as sponsors.
