14th Festival of German Films in Paris opens with WHISKY WITH VODKA (WHISKY MIT WODKA)

The Festival of German Films will be held in Paris for the 14th time from September 30 to 6 October, 2009. A total of nine new feature films, a TV film, a children's film, six shorts and the NEXT GENERATION 2009 program of shorts will be presented at the Cinéma L’Arlequin.

The festival will be opened with WHISKY WITH VODKA (WHISKY MIT WODKA) by Andreas Dresen, which was greeted with an enthusiastic response at the international festival in Karlovy Vary. Members of the team will introduce their film to the audience in person. A cocktail for invited guests will be held in the cinema's foyer folIowing the screening.

The following new German films can be seen in the main program alongside the opening film: GERMANY 09 (DEUTSCHLAND 09, Fatih Akin, Wolfgang Becker, Sylke Enders, Dominik Graf, Christoph Hochhaeusler, Romuald Karmakar, Nicolette Krebitz, Dani Levy, Angela Schanelec, Hans Steinbichler, Isabelle Stever, Tom Tykwer and Hans Weingartner), HILDE (Kai Wessel), KAIFECK MURDER (HINTER KAIFECK, Esther Gronenborn), JOHN RABE (Florian Gallenberger), THE DAY WILL COME (ES KOMMT DER TAG, Susanne Schneider), LULU & JIMI (Oskar Roehler), DORFPUNKS (Lars Jessen), the children's film LITTLE WHITE LIES (DIE PERLMUTTERFARBE) by Marcus H. Rosenmüller, the TV Film DUTSCHKE (Stefan Krohmer) and STORM (STURM) by Hans-Christian Schmid as the closing film. Some of the directors will be travelling to Paris to present their films in person.

In addition to German Films' NEXT GENERATION 2009 program, there will be screenings of the six short films ATMEN (Lei Xue), FOR MATHILDE (FUER MATHILDE, Alla Churikova), HOCUS-POCUS (HOKUS-POKUS, Anna Samoylovich), SEA DOG'S DEVOTION (SEEMANNSTREUE, Anna Kalus), WHEN WE ARE IN HEAVEN (UND WENN WIR DANN IM HIMMEL SIND, Daniela Risch) and IN BETWEEN (ZWISCHENZEIT, Mischa Leinkauf, Matthias Wermke).

The „Le Mur en doc“ sidebar programmed by the Goethe Institut will be showing OFF WAYS (ELEKTROKOHLE (VON WEGEN)) by Uli M. Schueppel and MATERIAL by Thomas Heise as well as a "Night of German Cinema" with the screening of Ulrike Ottinger's SOUTHEAST PASSAGE (SUEDOSTPASSAGE).

The award-winning film GITTI by filmmaker Anna Deutsch will be presented in collaboration with the Berlinale and TV5MONDE.
